Transportation Must Be Prioritized for Tourism Development: Tourism Board Director

District Correspondent, Sylhet:

To promote tourism in the country, the transportation system must be prioritized, stated Abu Selim Mahmud-ul Hasan, Director (Administration and Finance) of the Bangladesh Tourism Board. He emphasized that the primary factors in developing any area as a tourist destination are its transportation, accommodation, and activities, and these aspects must receive significant attention.

He made these remarks on Wednesday afternoon during a stakeholder consultation meeting on the “Eco-Tourism Development Project for Rema-Kalenga, Satchari, and Lakkhibaur Swamp Forest” held in the conference room of the Habiganj Deputy Commissioner’s office.

He further mentioned that determining the capacity of a tourist destination is essential to attract more visitors. Additionally, those involved in tourism must receive proper training. Measures will be taken to explore whether resorts can be developed around Satchari National Park and Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary.

The meeting, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Md. Faridur Rahman, featured speeches by Superintendent of Police A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of the District Council Nurul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Education and ICT Amit Chakraborty, Divisional Forest Officer Humayun Kabir, Freedom Fighter Golam Mostafa Rafiq, and Team Leader Imtiaz Sharif.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Md. Faridur Rahman said that a survey is being conducted to determine what is needed to increase the number of tourists, and feasibility studies are ongoing. He added, “If there are no trees in the forest, why would people visit? Trees must not be cut down under any circumstances; they must be preserved.”

Superintendent of Police A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman remarked, “This district is one of the most peaceful in the country. There is no sound of weapons or terrorism here. The people are hospitable, and the natural beauty is mesmerizing. The roads through the haor and hilly areas are breathtaking.”
