Balaganj Correspondent: A six-day Climate-Smart Agricultural Technology Fair has been inaugurated in Balaganj, Sylhet. On Saturday (May 3), the fair was inaugurated by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Sujit Kumar Chand, by cutting the ribbon at the Balaganj M.A. Khan Auditorium.
The event was presided over by Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Ashiqur Rahman and conducted by Agriculture Extension Officer Md. Nuruzzaman. The chief guest, UNO Sujit Kumar Chand, said in his speech that the fair would serve as an important platform for farmers to learn about modern technologies and apply them in their cultivation practices. He added that this initiative aims to teach farmers sustainable agricultural practices using modern technology to adapt to climate change, contributing to the enrichment of the nation.
A total of 12 stalls have been set up at the fair, which will continue until May 8. Hundreds of farmers from six unions of the upazila participated in the event.
Agriculture Extension Officer Md. Nuruzzaman stated that under the Agricultural Development Project of the Sylhet region, the Agriculture Technology Fair 2025 showcases 12 modern agricultural technologies, including floating vegetables, cultivation of high-value crops, safe crop production techniques, technology villages, single and mixed fruit orchards, and other advanced farming methods. These technologies are directly demonstrated to farmers by the Balaganj Upazila Agriculture Office, enabling them to easily grasp modern practices. Moreover, plans have been undertaken to bring fallow lands in the six unions of the upazila under cultivation. The Upazila Agriculture Office is committed to fully supporting farmers in adopting any modern technology.
The event was attended and addressed by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sarkar Mamunur Rashid, Officer-in-Charge of Balaganj Police Station Farid Uddin Bhuiyan, OC (Investigation) Fayez Ahmad, Convener of the Balaganj Bazaar Merchants Association and Assistant General Secretary of Khilafat Majlis Sylhet District Maulana Ashiqur Rahman, Joint Convener Masuk Mia, journalist Abul Kashem Afeek, Ameer of Balaganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Abdul Jalil, General Secretary of Khilafat Majlis Balaganj Upazila poet Mim Hossain, journalists Amir Ali, Shahabuddin Shaheen, Zakir Hossain, Tarek Ahmad, Helal Ahmad, and others.
Additionally, leaders from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Khilafat Majlis, and various social organizations, along with officials from different government departments, were also present at the fair.
