Two Construction Workers Injured in Wild Elephant Attack in Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria

Two construction workers were seriously injured in a wild elephant attack in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar. The attack also caused damage to residential houses and crop fields. The incident occurred early Saturday (3rd May) in the Khristanpara area, north of Dulahazara Safari Park.

The injured workers are Nurul Absar (20) and Ariful Islam (21), residents of Shahmura Mazar area in Kakara Union, Chakaria. They were engaged in the construction of a wall for the Safari Park.

Ariful Islam, one of the injured workers, stated that two wild elephants entered the Khristanpara cropland early Saturday morning. When locals tried to chase the elephants away, they attacked the quarters where the workers were staying. As a result, Nurul Absar and Ariful were seriously injured. Later, locals rescued them and admitted them to Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital.

Aziz Mia, a member of Kakara Union Parishad in Chakaria, reported that one of the injured workers suffered a fractured rib, while the other sustained severe injuries to both eyes. Their treatment is currently ongoing with the help of local residents.
