Discussion Meeting of JUC on the Occasion of International May Day “Rights and Security of Journalists Must Be Ensured”

On the occasion of International May Day 2025, a discussion meeting was organized by the Journalists Union Cox’s Bazar (JUC).

The meeting took place on Thursday, May 1, at 11:00 am in the auditorium of the Cox’s Bazar Press Club.

The discussion meeting was presided over by Abu Siddiq Osman, a senior member of JUC’s convening committee, and conducted by another committee member, M.R. Mahbub. Speakers at the meeting included senior journalist and former president of the Cox’s Bazar Press Club Atahar Iqbal, Cox’s Bazar Press Club General Secretary Momtaz Uddin Bahari, Daily Dinkal staff reporter Nurul Islam Helali, Joint General Secretary of Cox’s Bazar Press Club Ikramul Haq Tipu, JUC convening committee members Mohammad Hasim and Hasanur Rashid, Daily Inqilab staff reporter Shamsul Alam Sharek, and President of the Television Journalists Association Morshedur Rahman Khokon.

During the discussion, the speakers stated that International May Day is not just a symbol of the struggle for labor rights but also a day of fighting for the dignity and rights of all professionals. Journalists, being engaged in a high-risk profession, portray the voice of society, and thus, ensuring the proper value and security of their labor is a demand of the time.

Among others present were President of the Cox’s Bazar Coastal Journalists Forum S.M. Iqbal Bahar, district representative of Daily Observer and Alokito Bangladesh A.H. Selim Ullah, district representative of Daily Sangbad Jasim Uddin Siddiqui, district representative of Daily Sangram Imam Khair, President of Journalists Parliament Cox’s Bazar Aziz Russel, district representative of Daily Azadi Shahed Mizan, district representative of Bijoy TV Shah Alam, Cox’s Bazar staff reporter of Jamuna TV Ehsan Kutubi, district president of the National Journalists Association Nurul Amin Helali, staff reporter of Himchari H.N. Alam, multimedia representative of Kaler Kantho Aroz Faruq, Zikir Ullah Ziku, and Mozammel Haque Antor De Bishal.

At the end of the discussion, all participants, inspired by the spirit of May Day, expressed their resolve to unite and achieve their professional rights.
