Garment Worker’s Death in Chattogram: Forced to Work Despite Being

Staff Reporter:
A wave of grief has swept over Chattogram’s CEPZ area following the death of garment worker Utpal Tanchangya, employed as a finishing helper at LCB Garments. Utpal had been suffering from diarrhea since yesterday. Despite his illness, his leave request was denied, forcing him to report to work out of fear of losing his job.

This morning, as his condition worsened, he requested leave again but was compelled to continue working. By midday, he made a third desperate plea for leave, crying, and was granted leave at 4 PM. However, by then, his body had become too weak. He was taken to BEPZA Medical Hospital, where he ultimately took his last breath.

The inhumane behavior of the garment authorities has sparked outrage among workers. Many have demanded immediate action against those responsible for Utpal’s tragic death.
