District Correspondent, Sylhet: The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) proctorial body has issued a show-cause notice to the president of the university’s Chhatra Dal unit, Rahat Zaman, and its general secretary, Naeem Sarkar, for violating discipline.
Confirming the matter, the university’s proctor, Professor Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, stated, “We have served a show-cause notice to the president and general secretary of the SUST Chhatra Dal unit. Despite the prohibition on organizing programs under political banners within the university, Chhatra Dal conducted programs under their party banner, which disrupted university discipline. They have been asked to respond to the notice within three working days.”
It is noteworthy that a ban on programs under political banners at SUST has been in effect since November 6. However, defying this directive, the SUST Chhatra Dal unit organized political programs on April 8 in solidarity with Palestinians and on April 20 to protest the murder of a Prime University student. This has sparked criticism on social media and caused resentment among students, who believe the use of party banners for programs is an attempt to reintroduce politics on campus.
