Body of Missing Stone Worker Recovered After Boat Capsize in Jaflong

A.F.M. Asad Ullah Asad: The body of Sajol Mia (34), a stone worker who went missing following a boat capsize while collecting stones from the Zero Point of Jaflong Stone Quarry in Gowainghat Upazila, has been recovered. Sajol Mia was the son of Islam Uddin of Chaturbhuj village in Tahirpur Upazila, Sunamganj district.

On Sunday morning, Gowainghat police recovered his floating body from the Zero Point area of Jaflong.

According to locals and police sources, three days after the incident, Sajol Mia’s body was spotted floating in the Zero Point area of Jaflong on Sunday morning. Locals immediately informed the police, who recovered the body and prepared a preliminary autopsy report.

It is worth mentioning that last Thursday, during inclement weather, a group of workers attempted to collect stones from the restricted ECA area of Jaflong Stone Quarry, evading patrols by police and BGB personnel. While returning with stones, the stone-laden boat capsized in the river due to strong currents and hurried attempts to navigate. Sajol’s co-worker Ashikul Islam managed to swim ashore, but Sajol went missing.

Sub-Inspector Abdur Rakib Khan, acting Officer-in-Charge of Gowainghat Police Station, confirmed the incident. He stated, “The body of Sajol Mia, a missing stone worker, was recovered from Jaflong Zero Point. Upon receiving information about a floating body on Sunday morning, the police visited the spot and identified the body as Sajol Mia. A preliminary autopsy report was prepared, and further legal proceedings are underway.”
