Polytechnic Students Protest with Six-Point Demands

Ahmed majid ittija Chittagong: Polytechnic students across the country have taken to the streets, boycotting ongoing mid-term exams to press their six-point demands. They have expressed solidarity with all polytechnic institutes nationwide through blockade programs. Students from the Bangladesh Sweden Polytechnic Institute have also actively participated in the protest.

The six-point demands of the students include:

1.Stopping the promotion of craft instructors and canceling the 2021 non-tech craft appointments.

2.Maintaining the diploma engineering course as a four-year program and ensuring the medium of instruction is English.

3.Reserving junior instructor positions in the 10th grade for diploma engineers.

4.Establishing a policy to ensure that only engineers are appointed in the technical sector.

5.Creating an independent Ministry of Technical Education.6. ⁠

6.Increasing higher education opportunities by expanding the number of seats at DUET, opening new engineering colleges, and establishing more engineering universities for technical students.

The protest programs were carried out by blocking the Kaptai-Rangamati Road and the Kaptai-Chattogram Road.

This movement was led by Imtiaz Absar of Civil Wood Technology and Tahsin Kabir Ratul and Rishad Mahmud of Electrical Technology.

According to the students, implementing these demands is crucial for improving the quality of technical education in the country. They have urged the authorities to address their demands promptly.
