Mohammad Khoursed Helaly, Cox’s Bazar

Acting President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Obaidur Rahman Shaheen, said the committee of Journalists’ Union Cox’s Bazar (JUCB) has been dissolved due to expiration of its term, various irregularities, and corruption. A five-member ad-hoc committee will be announced within the next three days. He emphasized that to make the organization dynamic, all journalists within the union must overcome internal divisions and unite. If discord continues, allies of the fallen government will take advantage.

He made this announcement as the chief guest during an emergency exchange meeting organized by the Journalists’ Union Cox’s Bazar held at 3 PM today, Sunday (April 6), at the Cox’s Bazar Press Club auditorium.

As the keynote speaker, BFUJ General Secretary Kader Gani Chowdhury said that due to submissive and partisan journalists, the country has fallen behind, leading to the rise of fascism. Truthful and objective journalism is now a distant concept, causing the spiritual death of journalism. He added that due to the fallen Hasina government’s patronized media, the people of the country are far removed from accurate and reliable news.

He stated that now is the time to uphold truth and reality and to resist the aggression of fascism. There is no alternative to a collective effort and strong unity among journalists in this regard.

The emergency meeting of Journalists’ Union Cox’s Bazar was presided over by senior member and veteran journalist Md. Kamal Hossain Azad. Speakers included former JUCB Vice President M.R. Mahbub, senior member Abu Siddique Osmani, and other leaders. The event was conducted by former JUCB General Secretary S.M. Zafar.

Also present were former JUCB President and current General Secretary of Cox’s Bazar Press Club, Momtaz Uddin Bahari; senior members S.M. Aminul Haque, Atahar Iqbal, Shamsul Haque Sharek Ibn Amin, and other members of JUCB.
