A young man named Abu Taher (19) was brutally beaten and seriously injured by assailants in Golapganj. He has been admitted to M.A.G. Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Following the incident, the victim’s family filed a complaint at Golapganj Model Police Station, naming four individuals and mentioning 5-6 unidentified persons.
The injured Abu Taher is the son of Abdus Salam from Naluya Kandigram, Ward No. 1, Bagha Union, Golapganj Upazila. He is a tenth-grade student at Srirampur Dakhil Madrasa.
According to the complaint and the victim’s family, on Friday (March 28) at around midnight, Abu Taher was called out via mobile phone and then brutally assaulted by the attackers. During the attack, they gave him electric shocks and demanded a ransom of five lakh taka. The torture continued until midnight, after which they left him near the Gazhi Borhan Uddin Road, assuming he was dead.
Locals found him lying on the ground in a critical state and immediately took him to Sylhet M.A.G. Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Abu Taher’s father, Abdus Salam, stated that due to previous enmity, his son was kidnapped and tortured by Rahel Ahmed (20), son of the late Cherag Mia from Naluya Kandigram; Sani Ahmed (20), son of Layek Mia from the same village; Farhad Ahmed (19) from Bhadeshwar; and Mahmud Ahmed (22) from Shah Paran area, along with 5-6 unidentified individuals.
He said, “They lured my son to the Shah Paran (R.) Daspara playground, where they brutally beat him. During the assault, they called me on the phone and demanded a ransom of five lakh taka. When my son refused to comply, they repeatedly gave him electric shocks with a device until he lost consciousness. After he regained consciousness, they spat on his face and forced him to swallow it. Then, they made him consume an unknown substance, after which he lost consciousness again. Assuming he was dead, they abandoned him by the roadside.”
Locals discovered him and informed me, and we rushed him to Osmani Medical College. Initially, he showed some improvement, but his condition has worsened, and he is currently under observation in the ICU.
