We Must Unite Against Discrimination

Ashfaq Ahmad  Boro Lekha-Juri (Moulvibazar) Correspondent:

Bangladesh gained independence with the golden dream of building a discrimination-free, democratic, and dignified state. Unfortunately, even today, our young generation is deprived of justice, education, employment, and basic rights.

Honorable student leaders, the history of Bangladesh bears witness to the fact that the student community has always been at the forefront of great changes—be it the Language Movement, the Liberation War, or the struggle for the restoration of democracy. Today, the country is once again passing through a critical moment. We must collectively stand against issues like the education system, unemployment, corruption, and social discrimination.

In our upazila, there are various student organizations whose sole purpose is to protect students’ rights, ensure a proper educational environment, and raise voices against injustice. Therefore, we must work together, regardless of political affiliation. By setting aside divisions, respecting one another, and working collectively, we can surely bring about the necessary changes. From this platform today, I call upon the leaders and activists of all student organizations in the upazila to unite in this effort.

These words were expressed by Mahbubul Alam, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council, while addressing the Iftar and prayer gathering organized by the Boro Lekha Upazila branch of the Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council. The event, held on Sunday at the Jhimmi Restaurant & Party Center in Boro Lekha, was dedicated to praying for the forgiveness of the martyrs of the July uprising and for the recovery of the injured.

The event was presided over by Rezaul Karim, Office Secretary of the Gono Odhikar Parishad Moulvibazar District Branch, and conducted by Farhad Ahmad. Special guests included Nazmul Islam, Vice President of the Youth Rights Council Moulvibazar District Branch; Mahbubur Rahman Rumel, Former President of the Students’ Rights Council Moulvibazar District Branch; and Jakaria Hossain, Organizational Secretary of the same organization.

Leaders and activists from various organizations, including all branches of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Jamiat, and Chhatra Majlis, along with anti-fascist student organizations from three upazilas and college municipal branches, were present at the event.

Before the Iftar, prayers were led by Abdullah Tayyib, General Secretary of the Boro Lekha Upazila branch of Chhatra Jamiat. After Iftar, the program’s chief guest, Mahbubul Alam, was presented with an honorary crest by leaders from various political organizations.
