Uncle Killed by Nephew’s Stabbing in Sunamganj

A man named Abdul Gani Mia (50) was killed by his nephew’s stabbing in Sunamganj. The deceased, Abdul Gani Mia, was the son of the late Rashid Mia of the village in the upazila. The murder occurred over disputes related to filling up soil on a cattle passage (pathway).

The incident took place on Wednesday night in front of the house in Dhopaghatpur village under Banshikhunda South Union of Moddhanagar upazila.

Locals reported that a fight broke out between Abdul Gani Mia’s family and the family of his brother Abdul Gafur over filling soil on the cattle passage in front of their house in Dhopaghatpur village. At one stage, Abdul Gafur’s son attacked his uncle, Abdul Gani Mia, with a sharp knife, striking him in the neck. He was rushed to the Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex in neighboring Netrokona, where doctors declared him dead.

Confirming the matter on Wednesday night at 12 AM, Moddhanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sajib Rahman said, “An uncle was killed by his nephew’s stabbing following a dispute over filling soil on the cattle passage near the house. The body is currently at Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex. No formal complaint has been filed yet, but police operations are ongoing to apprehend the accused.”

The victim’s family alleged that apart from Abdul Gafur’s son Shohel, his brother Rubel, sister Popi Akter, and Gafur’s wife Josna Begum were also involved in the assault and murder.
