Road Blockade by Polytechnic Students

Students of Sylhet Polytechnic Institute staged a road blockade and demonstration demanding the withdrawal of the High Court directive to include vocational and polytechnic graduates in the same job grade.

On Wednesday morning, the students gathered in front of the Baroikandi campus of Sylhet Polytechnic Institute in South Surma and began their protest. Later, they marched to the Kazir Bazar area, where they staged a sit-in. This caused long traffic congestion on both sides of the road.

During the protest, the students said they obtain jobs in the 10th grade after completing a 4-year diploma. However, if vocational students with only SSC and HSC qualifications are placed in the same grade, it is unjustified.

They further stated that the High Court directive would limit the employment opportunities for diploma engineers. They demanded the immediate withdrawal of the directive. Otherwise, they warned of boycotting classes and exams and launching a larger movement.
