Husband Arrested for Attempting to Burn Wife Alive in Medieval Fashion in Barlekha

In a horrific incident in Barlekha, Moulvibazar, a husband, Ashik Bakti Dulal (31), attempted to kill his wife, Champa Bakti (26), through brutal torture. At around 2:30 AM on Sunday, neighbors rescued the severely injured Champa and admitted her to the hospital, while the perpetrator was handed over to the police. The incident took place at Dulal’s residence in the Pakka Line area of Samanbag Tea Garden.

According to sources, Ashik Bakti Dulal began torturing his wife Champa over a trivial family dispute on Sunday night. In a barbaric act, he stripped her, slapped and beat her, and then burned her hair over a fire. At one point, he tried to suffocate her to death by shoving a towel down her throat. Hearing her screams, neighbors rushed to the scene, rescued Champa, and admitted her to the hospital. They also detained the abusive husband and handed him over to the police.

Barlekha Police Station SI Masud Parvez Jamadar stated that the injured woman has been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for better treatment. The arrested suspect, Ashik Bakti Dulal, has been sent to jail through the court.
