Chattogram’s Top-listed Terrorist Chhoto Sajjad Arrested

Police have finally succeeded in arresting Chattogram’s top-listed terrorist, Chhoto Sajjad. He was apprehended on Saturday night (March 15) in the capital, Dhaka. The matter was confirmed by Md. Jahangir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (North Zone). Earlier, police had announced a reward for information leading to the capture of Sajjad, also known as “Burir Nati.”

On January 28, Sajjad had threatened the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chattogram’s Bayezid Bostami Police Station on social media, claiming he would strip him naked and beat him. Subsequently, on January 30, police announced a cash reward for anyone providing information or assistance in capturing Sajjad.

In a live broadcast, Sajjad stated that no matter where OC Arif was in the country, he would bring him to the Oxygen area of the city and beat him up. He also said, “I may die, but I will not give up.” In the live broadcast, he further threatened, “I will strip and beat you.” Additionally, he accused OC Arif of extortion and being involved in his child’s murder, demanding his transfer. Following this incident, OC Arifur Rahman of Bayezid Bostami Police Station filed a general diary (GD).

On December 5 last year, police launched an operation to arrest Chhoto Sajjad in the Oxygen area of the city. During the operation, Sajjad opened fire at the police while fleeing. Two police officers and two civilians were injured in the shooting.

It was reported that Sajjad became increasingly reckless after stepping into the criminal underworld. Residents of Bayezid Bostami, Chandgaon, Panchlaish, and Hathazari police station areas—approximately 300,000 people—lived in fear of him. His extortion activities became almost public knowledge.

Sajjad primarily collected extortion money from construction sites and businesses. He faces ten cases, including murder, illegal arms possession, and extortion. On July 17 last year, Chandgaon police arrested Sajjad with weapons. However, he was released on bail the following month. He is the son of Md. Jamal from Shikarpur, Hathazari, adjacent to Bayezid Bostami Police Station.

Reports state that on September 21, Sajjad’s gang shot and killed a local businessman, Aftab Uddin Tahsin (27), near a tea stall adjacent to Jagoroni Club in the Adurpara area under Chandgaon Police Station. A few days earlier, on September 18, Sajjad and two others, armed with shotguns, entered an under-construction building in the Kalurpool area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station, firing shots. They then demanded five lakh taka from the building owner.

On August 29 last year, two people, Masud Kaiser (32) and Mohammad Anis (38), were publicly shot and killed on the Oxygen-Kuwaish road under Bayezid Bostami Police Station. The double murder resulted from conflicts over territorial dominance, business disputes, and political rivalry. Sajjad and his associates were named as suspects in the two cases related to this shocking incident.
