Ashfak Ahmed, Baralekha, Correspondent: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) pushed in 4 Rohingyas, including children and women, and 4 illegal Bangladeshi citizens through the Baralekha border in Moulvibazar early on Friday (August 8). In the morning, a patrol team of the BGB’s New Pallathal BOP arrested them while they were roaming in the Panpunji area of Batamor, approximately 500 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 1374.
The BGB 52 Battalion is verifying the information provided by them. After identifying the identities, the BGB handed over the detainees to the police station at 7 pm.
The BGB said that the four illegal Bangladeshi citizens who were pushed in are – Mosammat Shirin Akhter (35), daughter of Rashed Mia of Hakor village in Kasba upazila of B-Baria district, and Mohammad Siam (18), son of Ayub Khan, Md. Zakir Sheikh (25), son of Md. Jabbar Sheikh (25), of Charashitoshpur village in Pabna Sadar, and Sabina Khatun (30), wife of Md. Shiblu Mia of Chandpur village in Kotiadi upazila of Kishoreganj district. The 4 Rohingyas, including a child and two women, are – Md. Asadullah (45), son of the deceased Kalu Mia, a resident of Teknaf Leda Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, his wife Mosa. Jamila Begum (25), daughter Mosa. Asma Khatun (2) and son Mosa. Hamid Hossain (15).
During interrogation, they said that they had fled from there a few years ago and illegally migrated to India in search of work. The detained Bangladeshi citizens also crossed the border illegally and went to India. Recently, the Indian police arrested them and handed them over to the BSF, but on Friday night, the BSF pushed them inside Bangladesh through the Panpunji area under the New Pallathal BGB camp in Barolekha upazila.
BGB-52 Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that the BSF pushed in four Bangladeshi citizens and four Rohingyas early on Friday night. A BGB patrol team arrested them while they were roaming suspiciously in Panpunji under the BGB New Pallathal BOP. After identifying them, the detainees were handed over to the Barolekha police station for further legal action.
Barolekha Police Station OC Md. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah said at 8 pm on Friday that the BGB 52 Battalion handed over the 8 people pushed in by the BSF to the police station later in the evening. Necessary action is being taken in their case.
