District Correspondent, Sylhet : The Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) under the Sylhet Sector of Border Guard Bangladesh has seized 28 Indian sheep and 37 Indian male goats from the border area of Sunamganj.
Acting on a tip-off, the seizure was made with the assistance of the army on Monday at around 12:30 PM near the Surma Bridge in the border area of Chhatak Upazila, Sunamganj District.
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) reported that the estimated market value of the seized sheep and goats is approximately 61.2 lakh Taka.
In this regard, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Haque, Commander of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), stated, “Smugglers have become active targeting the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, and it is suspected that these animals were smuggled from India into Bangladesh through illegal means. As per directives from higher headquarters, BGB’s operational activities and intelligence efforts to ensure border security and prevent smuggling are being carried out vigorously. As part of these efforts, this operation in the border area resulted in the seizure of the sheep and goats. Necessary measures will be taken regarding the seized smuggled livestock following the regulations.”
