A total of 36 accused, all affiliated with the Awami League and its associated organizations, secured anticipatory bail from the High Court in connection with four explosive-related political cases filed following allegations of an attack on an anti-discrimination student movement.
On Sunday, a High Court division bench comprising Justice Abu Taher Md. Saifur Rahman and Justice Mohammad Shawkat Ali Chowdhury granted interim bail to the accused for eight weeks and instructed them to surrender before the Sessions Judge in Sylhet.
Confirming the bail information, Zakiganj Press Club President Abul Khair Chowdhury stated that four cases under the Explosives Act were filed consecutively in Zakiganj on August 4, alleging attacks on the anti-discrimination student movement.
The accused in these political cases applied for bail, and the honorable court granted them eight weeks of interim bail. Advocate Sharmin Rubaiyat Islam represented the accused during the bail hearing.
Those granted bail include: Zakiganj Press Club President Abul Khair Chowdhury,Zakiganj Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Aftab Ahmed,Zakiganj Upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary MAG Babar,Organizational Secretary Abdus Salam,Upazila Sramik League President Sajal Barman,Upazila Jubo League Joint Convener Al Amin Abdullah Suman,Awami League leaders Abdul Khaliq, Aminul Islam Chowdhury Shimul, Muhibur Rahman, ATM Faisal, and Mohammad Ali,Former Upazila Chhatra League President Delwar Chowdhury,Former General Secretary Mostafa Uddin,Current Upazila Chhatra League President Sultan Ahmed,Vice President Shahriar Ahmed Sagar,Chhatra League leader Jahangir,Jubo League leaders Saidul Islam and Saleh Ahmed,Upazila Chhatra League Organizational Secretary Khaled Ahmed,Orphanage teacher Masukur Rahman Maruf,Jubo League leader Shamim Ahmed, among others, totaling 36 accused.
