3 Arrested for Harassing Madrasa Students

A.F.M. Asad Ullah: In Tahirpur, Sunamganj, five local youths have been accused of harassing two madrasa students on their way to and from school. When a victim’s uncle protested, he was severely injured in an attack by the youths. Following the incident, police conducted an operation and arrested three of the accused.

The arrested individuals are Mehedi Hasan (25), son of Mohibur Rahman; Maruf Mia (21), son of Alamgir; and Tausiq Mia (22), son of Jahangir—all residents of Balijuri Naya Hati village under Balijuri Union in the upazila.

The arrests were made early Sunday during operations conducted in Balijuri Union and nearby areas of Bishwambharpur Upazila.

According to reports, on April 28, the accused blocked the path of two students returning home after school at Balijuri H.A. Ulum Alim Madrasa in Balijuri Union. They harassed the students by making obscene gestures. When one of the students’ uncles intervened, he was attacked by the youths, leaving him severely injured. Following the incident, the students stopped attending the madrasa out of fear. On April 29, one of the students’ uncles, the injured victim, filed a written complaint at Tahirpur Police Station, naming five individuals.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Delwar Hossain of Tahirpur Police Station stated, “Three of the accused have been arrested during separate operations. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining two, Himel and Rocky. The arrested individuals will be sent to jail through court proceedings.”
