In March, 27 people were killed in road accidents in the Sylhet division, according to a report by the Sylhet Divisional Committee of Nirapad Sarak Chai (Nischa). The report states that 29 road accidents occurred in the division during the month, resulting in 27 fatalities and 78 injuries.
Among the deceased were 12 motorcyclists and their passengers, seven CNG-Leguna drivers and passengers, and five pedestrians. The fatalities included 22 men, three women, and two children.
The highest number of road accidents occurred in Sylhet district, while the lowest was reported in Habiganj district. In Sylhet district, 14 road accidents resulted in 10 deaths and 16 injuries.
In Sunamganj district, eight road accidents caused six deaths and left 41 injured. In Moulvibazar, five road accidents led to eight fatalities and 19 injuries. Meanwhile, in Habiganj, two road accidents resulted in three deaths and two injuries.
Jahirul Islam Mishu, Assistant Organizing Secretary of Nischa’s Central Committee, Member Secretary of the Sylhet Divisional Committee, and Convenor of the Sylhet District Committee, stated in a press release to the media that the report was compiled using data from five local daily newspapers, online news portals, two national dailies, unpublished incidents, and information from Nischa Sylhet branch organizations.
In February, 32 road accidents in the Sylhet division claimed 32 lives and injured 144 people.
